Privacy notice
Last updated 23 September 2026
This notice explains what personal information Mockland Butchery collects when you send us an order request, why we need it and what your rights are under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
In short
- We only collect what we need to handle your order: your name, phone number, email address and any notes you add.
- We don't sell or share your details, and we don't send marketing.
- We keep order requests for 12 months, then delete them or remove your details.
- We use one cookie, only on the order and admin pages, and your browser saves your basket locally. No tracking or analytics.
Who we are
Mockland Butchery is a neighbourhood butcher at 12 Example Street, Mockland, 0000. We are responsible for the personal information you give us on this website.
What we collect
When you send an order request we collect:
- your name
- your phone number
- your email address, if you give it
- your collection day and time
- anything you write in the notes box
- a scrambled (hashed) version of your internet (IP) address, which helps us block spam. It can't be turned back into your address.
We don't collect card or bank details. You pay when you collect.
Why we collect it
We use your details to prepare your order, to call or email you to confirm it and the final price, and to hand it over when you collect. We process them because you asked us to: sending an order request is a step towards buying from us. We never use them for marketing.
Who sees it
Only our staff who handle orders. Your order is emailed to our shop inbox and stored on our website's database, both run by our web and email hosting provider under contract. If you give an email address, we send you a copy of your order request. We don't sell, rent or share your details with anyone else.
How long we keep it
We keep order requests for 12 months so we can answer questions about past orders. After that we delete them or remove the details that identify you.
The cookie we use
We use one cookie, called mb_session. On the order pages it protects the form against forged submissions, keeps your details if you need to fix something, and shows your order reference after you send it. It also keeps our staff signed in to the admin pages. It is deleted when you close your browser. Your basket is saved in your browser's own storage so it's still there if you come back; nothing leaves your device until you send the order. We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
Your rights
You can ask us:
- what personal information we hold about you
- to correct it if it's wrong
- to delete it
- to stop using it (you can object to how we use it)
To do any of these, contact us using the details below. We'll reply within 30 days and may ask you to confirm who you are.
